New Backpacks for a New School Year

With another school year on the horizon, Child & Family Services would like to thank Lockheed Martin, the Rotary Club of Fall River and the Rotary Club of New Bedford for their generous donation of backpacks and school supplies.

A first day back to school can be tough without having the proper supplies. Imagine not being able to afford something as simple as a backpack? “With an estimated 6,000 children receiving services at our New Bedford and Fall River sites, there is always a need for these items,” stated Anne Sampaio, Executive Director at Child & Family Services. “Any time we can provide children with the tools they need to start school is one less thing they and their families need to worry about.”

This year, we received a total of 368 new colorful backpacks filled with much needed school supplies for the upcoming academic year. The time, work, and effort it takes to organize and assemble these backpacks are beyond commendable! For the last several years, Lockheed Martin has provided the agency with filled backpacks and this year was no exception as they donated a total of 128. The New Bedford Rotary Club donated an overwhelming 200 and the Fall River Rotary Club continues to help the cause by donating 40 filled backpacks.

We here at Child & Family Services are truly amazed at the level of community support we continue to receive to help children and families in need.

Thank you again for supporting the children in our community!
